OSO, Wash. — Firefighters are raising money to help the fire chief of the small Oso volunteer department shoulder his workload after the deadly March 22 mudslide.
The Associated Press reported that about $25,000 has been raised so far.
The goal is to raise $66,000 so that Fire Chief Willy Harper can tackle numerous responsibilities he’s taken on since the mudslide, according to the report.
The money raised would allow Chief Harper to devote himself temporarily to the fire chief post, while taking a leave of absence from his regular ranch job.
