BOSTON — A two-alarm fire in a Chinatown building yesterday afternoon sent three Boston firefighters to the hospital, displaced 14 people and caused an estimated $1 million in damages.

An electrical short appears to have started the fire on the first floor of the Happy Family Food Market on Hudson Street around 12:30 p.m., Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said.

About 60 Boston firefighters took roughly 30 minutes to put the fire out, MacDonald said. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation, another received stitches to his face, and a third had debris removed from his eyes after pulling apart the ceiling to get at the fire.
