STERLING, Mass. — Authorities say three Massachusetts youths were burned when they threw a flammable liquid into a campfire and it exploded.

The incident in the central Massachusetts town of Sterling remained under investigation Sunday.

Fire officials say the three juveniles received first- and second-degree burns in the explosion Saturday night. They were taken by ambulances to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Their names and ages were not released, and information about the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately available Sunday.
