TUMWATER, Wash. — A volunteer firefighter-EMT is being hailed a hero after taking down a shooter who opened fire in a Walmart.

KOMO News reported that David George, who is also a pastor, spoke out about shooting and killing Timothy Day after he injured three people in a shooting rampage.

“The gunman came past me waving and pointing his gun and he exited the building,” George said, according to CBS News.

George, who was legally carrying a gun, followed Day as he attempted to carjack people in the parking lot.

“The gunman attempted to get a car and when he failed he moved to another,” George said. “He then shot two times into the driver side of the vehicle and I fired to stop the shooter. I moved to clear the gunman, yelling to him to drop the gun and show me his hands.”

George said he jumped into action immediately to treat the shooting victims.

“This is in accordance with both my training as an emergency responder, as a pastor, a husband, a father and a grandfather,” he said.

George added that he does not consider himself a hero after the incident.

“I carry a firearm for the same reason I carry a first aid bag,” he said. “Hoping never having to use them, but always being prepared.”

Day died at the scene, and one of the shooting victims was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. His family said he is now paralyzed from the neck down.

Two other victims were treated for minor injuries.
