Portable radios are technologically well-advanced pieces of equipment. One of the advances with our newer radios is with the microphone. The mic is very sensitive and will pick up audio from both the background and the speaker.
When speaking into the portable radio mic, do not yell into it. Instead, speak in a normal tone. It will come across much clearer. If you normally speak loud, adjust the distance away from the mic before you transmit.
