MOUNT HERMON, La. — A volunteer firefighter died en route to a house fire when the truck she was driving went off the road and crashed.
WWLTV reported that Ronda Varnado, 54, was responding to house fire in a fully-loaded water truck when the truck tipped over and hit an embankment, according to officials.
“That particular agency, district 2, had about 174 calls last year. And she responded to every single one of them with the exception of one,” Major Justin Brown, with the Franklinton Police Department, said.
Brown also said Varnado was a mother of two sons, two stepsons and was a retired nurse.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
