BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. — A volunteer firefighter died Friday after being struck by an apparatus.
WSET.com reported that Eagle Rock volunteer firefighter Roger Johns, 63, died after responding to the scene of a vehicle crash. Police said a fire department member was backing up an apparatus to block the road when the vehicle hit Johns, who was serving as a guide.
Johns died at the hospital; the driver of the apparatus was not injured.
“At this time, our focus is on the welfare of his family and the Botetourt County firefighter community, and we therefore are not providing any further details at this time,” Botetourt County Administrator’s Office Management Assistant Cody Sexton said in a statement.
