Chicago Fire Department Unveils New Resource Center

Enhance Preparedness Through Technology, Training and Learning Tools

CHICAGO, Il. - Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Cortez Trotter today unveiled the new Robert J. Quinn Fire Academy Resource Center, which will enhance preparedness through new technology, training, and learning tools.

“For us in the fire service industry, September 11 is also a day to ensure we are prepared for any emergency. Hurricane Katrina reminds us that we must always be prepared for the unthinkable -- man-made or natural emergency,” said Commissioner Cortez Trotter at a press conference held at the Robert J. Quinn Fire Academy located at 558 W. DeKoven in Chicago.

Preparedness in the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) starts from the first day a new firefighter or paramedic candidate enters the fire academy. “Today I’m happy to announce the new Academy’s Resource Center that will be equipped with technology and wireless tools to enhance training and learning.”

Among other amenities, the new resource center includes:

· Technology Area with 10 computer workstations
· Video Conferencing and Training Center
· Multiple Source Monitoring/LCD Monitors
· Wireless Network Capability throughout
· Library Resource and Study Area
· Librarian/Proctor Station

This center is equipped with the latest in technology to ensure that we continue to enhance training and educational skills and become even better prepared for any emergency.

Commissioner Trotter concluded by saying, “the new resource center is not only a great way to enhance learning and training for our existing members, but also for the thousands of firefighters and paramedics that are yet to come.”
