SAN FRANCISCO — A man died after driving a truck into the San Francisco Bay off Treasure Island on Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

The man, who was 30 to 40 years old, drove past the end of 13th Street at Avenue N and into the water at a high rate of speed about 1:40 p.m., said San Francisco fire Lt. Ken Smith.

There are rocks at the water’s edge, but no barrier, Smith said.

The truck came to rest in about 10 feet of water, about 30 feet from shore.

Fire department divers broke the truck’s windows and pulled the man from the vehicle about 2:10 p.m.

A fire department water boat, which was in the area for safety reasons during the filming of an episode of “Trauma,” also responded to the scene, Smith said.

The driver of the truck was not breathing when he was pulled from the water. The identity of the man was not immediately available.

Police are investigating the incident.
