Thirty-three Marin firefighters are battling blazes in Trinity and Mendocino counties this week.
The Marin County Fire Department sent a team of 17 firefighters and five engines to fight various fires in the northern part of the state, including the Junction Fire west of Weaverville. The fire was was expected to be fully contained by 8 tonight, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.The Junction Fire had burned 3,126 acres, destroying one residence and injuring three people. Its cause was under investigation. A crew that included firefighters from the Tiburon, Larkspur, Novato, Marinwood and Southern Marin departments was sent to the Kingsley Complex Fire - one of a series of fires in the Mendocino National Forest. The team includes 16 firefighters and five engines.
The Kingsley Fire was started by lightning and had burned 1,963 acres. It was 10 percent contained as of Monday afternoon, with evacuations ordered.
