Hot, dry and windy weather continues to be a problem for firefighters battling several blazes across the state.
The Hogup Fire, burning more than 20,000 acres northwest of the Great Salt Lake in Box Elder County near Park Valley, has threatened nearly 20 structures but has required no evacuations, said Jim Springer of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. Firefighters are working to construct a 2-mile fire line and expect containment sometime today.
Another fire burning in Box Elder County, near Grouse Creek, is 60 percent contained. The Morse Fire has burned 250 acres. Steep and rugged terrain has made it difficult to fight.
In southern Utah, two smaller fires are nearly contained. The Interchange Fire, burning near the I-15 and I-70 junction near Cove Fort, has burned 550 acres and is 80 percent contained. The Antelope Fire has burned 390 acres 15 miles west of Cove Fort and is 95 percent contained.
Fire restrictions continue to be in effect for most of the state.
