WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. — Four firefighters with the Green Valley VFD were taken to a hospital following a crash, WOWK reports.

The crash happened on March 13 when the driver of the fire apparatus lost control, causing the truck to go down an embankment and into a creek.

According to West Virginia State Police, the four firefighters were en route to a fire when the crash occurred.

One firefighter was transported to a hospital by helicopter and the other three firefighters were taken by ambulance, WOWK reports.

One firefighter was released from the hospital later that night with serious bruising to his leg. The other three firefighters remained hospitalized overnight for observation, Lieutenant Justin Adkins told WOWK.

Adkins said that various departments across Cabell County rallied to offer assistance. Some arrived directly at the scene, while others manned their stations, prepared to handle any calls within the Green Valley coverage area. Additionally, a truck from the Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to guarantee that the GVVFD remained fully operational and ready to respond if necessary.
