LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas battalion chief died after being found unresponsive in his command vehicle at a fire scene Saturday.
City of Little Rock Fire Department Battalion Chief Edward Karriem, 41, was the commanding officer at the house fire late Saturday morning, officials said. During firefighting and overhaul procedures, Karriem was discovered unresponsive in his command vehicle and firefighters began CPR.
Karriem was transported in critical condition by Metropolitan EMS (MEMS) and later pronounced dead at the hospital. His cause of death is unknown pending a medical examiner’s report.
Karriem served with the Little Rock Division of Fire Services for 17 years. No one else was injured during the fire, officials said.
