WASHINGTON — An off-duty firefighter was killed over the weekend in a shooting incident that left two others injured.

Prince George’s County Firefighter Garry Stanley was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to reports of gunshots, according to ABC 13. Two other gunshot victims were found and transported to local hospitals.

“It is with great sadness the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department announces the death of Firefighter Garry Stanley,” the department wrote in a statement. “Firefighter Stanley was a career member of the department with more than 19 years of service and was assigned to Station 824/Accokeek. Please keep Garry’s family and brothers and sisters in the fire service in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Stanley was a married father of three, and was dedicated to his community, according to family members.

“He saved lives and he worked at the shelter helping get homeless people off the street,” Stanley’s uncle told ABC 13.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
