N.J. deputy chief dies following response to emergency call

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J. — Firefighters with the South Bound Brook Fire Department are mourning the loss of one of their members.

Deputy Chief Craig M. Konkle, 54, died March 23 following a sudden acute medical emergency after responding to a call, the department announced in a news release.

The department said Konkle had responded to a crash involving an overturned vehicle earlier in the day.

Konkle was a firefighter with the South Bound Brook Fire Department since 2013. He was a Somerset County 200 Club Valor Award recipient for performing a lifesaving rescue in 2017.
