Firefighters, police officers help send off fallen veteran

The Portland Fire Department was contacted by the Maine Medical Center to help honor a Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq

PORTLAND, Maine — A fire department joined police officers and hospital staff to give a proper send off to a fallen Marine veteran.

WFMY News reported that the Portland Fire Department Bramhall Fire Station was asked by the Maine Medical Center’s ICU staff to help honor a Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq.

“Today the staff from the ICU at Maine Medical Center contacted the Portland Fire Department and asked if our members could assist them with giving a deserving send off for a USMC Veteran who had served two tours of duty in Iraq,” a Facebook post with a photo of the moment read. “This was a request that firefighters from our Bramhall Fire Station were honored to assist with.”

“This Marine’s body was covered with the American flag as he was escorted down a hallway that was lined with Portland firefighters and police officers, military veterans, doctors and hospital staff, all standing at attention,” the post continued. “His final destination was the operating room where his organs would be used to give others the gift of life.”

The photo has been shared almost 7,000 times.
