SOUTH TYNESIDE, England — Fire crews in South Tyneside are being issued with ‘spit kits’ in a bid to identify yobs who physically abuse them.
The swab collection kits are part of a raft of measures announced today to protect Tyne and Wear firefighters from attack.
The kits – also issued to borough bus drivers earlier this year – will enable staff who are spat at to collect evidence and send it to the police to check the DNA of the offender. At the same time, all appliances are being fitted with 360 degree digital CCTV to capture footage of attacks.
