How’s the quality of your sleep when you’re on duty?

Odds are, it isn’t great.

Firefighters are likely to have sleep disorders, and they can lead to disastrous consequences.

Dr. Sara Jahnke joins us this episode to talk about firefighter sleep disorders and what can be done about them. She’s the director of the Center for Fire, Rescue and EMS Health Research at the National Development and Research Institutes, and she has written about the effects of shift length on firefighter health and fatigue management strategies.

Code 3 is hosted by award-winning journalist Scott Orr, who has covered the fire/EMS/police beat for most of his 30-plus year career in news. He’s worked around the country in both TV and print. Orr was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over a decade ago, but that doesn’t stop him from interviewing fire service leaders on issues that concern firefighters around the nation.
