MILWAUKEE —A Milwaukee firefighter was hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries Saturday night when he fell off a ladder while fighting a fire.
Jeff Rothmeier was transported to Froedtert Hospital and treated for a severe concussion, a spinal fracture and 10 broken ribs, WISN reported.
Rothmeier was moved to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where his daughter had a kidney removed Monday.
According to a GoFundMe campaign for Rothmeier and his daughter, when the Milwaukee Fire chief visited Rothmeier at Froedtert and learned about the situation with his daughter, the chief ordered an ambulance crew to transport the firefighter to the Mayo Clinic so he could be with his wife and daughter.
The fire department said in a statement to WISN 12 News that it is “actively supporting the Rothmeier family in every way possible.”
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said Monday on Facebook that he spoke with Rothmeier.
“The entire city wishes him a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with him and his family as they work through multiple health challenges,” Johnson said.
