PATERSON, N.J. — Two firefighters sustained burn injuries at a fatal five-alarm fire in Paterson on Sunday.

Paterson firefighters arrived on scene to find two wood-frame buildings ablaze, but the fire quickly spread to three more adjacent buildings – all 2½-story multi-family occupancies, reported northjersey.com.

A captain and a firefighter suffered burns in the fire, which was reportedly so hot that it melted the siding on buildings across the street. The firefighters were transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and have since been released.

One person died in the fire and 47 others were displaced.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Jerry Speziale, the public safety director of the Paterson Fire Department, shared video of the incident.
