La. fire officials admit problems, plan solutions

SHREVEPORT, La. — With the former fire chief in jail, the resignations of two board members shortly after his arrest and questions about financial dealings, Caddo Fire District 3 officials know they’ve got more than a few problems on their hands.

But what interim Fire Chief Jim Banks and newly appointed board Chairman Jeff Larsen want the public to understand most is those concerns will be resolved and the district will move forward.

“There may have been issues in the past, and we are going to address them,” said Larsen, a Greenwood resident and 20-year fire district volunteer firefighter. “We don’t want to forget we serve this community.”

Ex-Fire Chief Donovon “Don” R. McMullen Jr. resigned April 5 from his $71,880-a-year post, two weeks after the 42-year-old was arrested on charges stemming from a murder-for-hire scheme.
