Ky. firefighter dies after fireground medical emergency

Ballardsville Firefighter Thomas Petschke Jr. had served the department for nearly 10 years

GOSHEN, Ky. — A Ballardsville firefighter died after experiencing a medical emergency while at the scene of a fire in Goshen.

Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS spokesperson Jordan Yuodis said the incident occurred while firefighters working. Firefighter Thomas Petschke Jr. was transported to Norton Hospital where he later died, WDRB reported.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time,” Yuodis said. “We ask that you keep the fallen firefighter and his loved ones in your thoughts during this time of grief.”

The exact cause of Petschke’s death is unknown.

WLKY reported that Petschke, 53, served for nine and a half years and is survived by his wife and two children.
