WEST WHITELAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One West Whiteland firefighter is dead and another sustained injuries when their vehicle went off the road while responding to a call.

The West Whiteland Fire Company posted on Facebook that firefighters Colin Reedy and Emily Gindele were en route to a call during a heavy downpour when their vehicle went off the road and struck a tree, WFMZ reported.

Reedy was pronounced dead on the scene. Gindele was transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital and is listed in “critical but stable condition.”

“Colin was light and he was energy and he was just everything, and we had so many hopes and dreams for him,” his mother Tracy Reedy told WPVI.

Gindele was Reedy’s girlfriend and the two became volunteer firefighters earlier this year.

“It hits home for everyone, not just here, especially the community. They lost a valuable piece,” West Whiteland Fire Chief Kevin Miller said.
