ROSTAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Members of the Rostraver Central Fire Department mourned the loss of Safety Officer John ‘Billy’ Bunardzya.
Bunardzya died from an apparent heart attack in his sleep after responding to a call on April 6, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
Governor Josh Shapiro ordered the United States and commonwealth flags in Westmoreland County to fly flags at half-staff in honor of Bunardzya, CBS Pittsburgh reported.
Bunardzya, 73, had also been a firefighter at Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Company and was passionate about helping his community.
