Duty Death: James E. Sommers - [Live Oak]

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Suwannee Fire Rescue Fire Chief and Public Safety Director James E. Sommers died in a vehicle crash after attending a Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Sommers was involved in a collision on his way back home after attending the meeting as a representative of Suwannee Fire Rescue Department. Emergency personnel transported him to Lake City Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the incident.
Sommers was a 19-year fire service veteran and had served as public safety director for the last seven years.
