FARMLAND, Ind. — A Farmland firefighter has been killed and another injured after being involved in a fire department tanker crash Thursday morning in Randolph County.

The Muncie Star Press  reported that the tanker was traveling on Randolph County Road 1000-W before 7 a.m. when the vehicle approached an S-curve and rolled over.

WRTV reported the firefighters were responding to a barn fire north of where the crash occurred.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security stated the tanker landed on top of Assistant Chief Kyle T. Osgood, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighter Zachary Lee was seriously injured and flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Lee is in critical condition and underwent surgery at midday Thursday.

A procession of emergency vehicles accompanied the ambulance that carried Osgood's body to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where an autopsy is to be conducted.

Randolph County Sheriff Art Moystner told the Muncie Star Press that the Indiana State Police are investigating the accident
