ARCADE, Ga. — A Georgia volunteer firefighter died from cardiac arrest Thursday morning after fighting a fire at a residential structure.

Arcade Fire Department Firefighter George “Johnny” Childs, 64, helped battle the blaze Wednesday night and was found unresponsive in his vehicle the following morning, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Childs was transported to the hospital where he died from cardiac arrest.

The Georgia State Firefighters Association said Childs had served as a firefighter for 24 years. His funeral will be held Dec. 10.
