DUBLIN, Ohio — Firefighter-paramedic Charles D. Swank, 39, died while in Florida for training on Dec. 8, the U.S. Fire Administration stated Wednesday.

He suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a hospital, where he died later that day. Swank’s cause of death has not been determined.

He was in the fire service for 17 years and was serving with the Washington Township Fire Department in Dublin, Ohio.

The fire department announced his death on Facebook last week.

The post read, in part: “Charles served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the US Army’s 82 Airborne where he earned a Bronze Star. Firefighter Swank is survived by his wife Alaina and his five children.”

A fundraiser for his survivors has been set up.
