NORTH AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — A New York fire chief died on Wednesday from a cardiac arrest after responding to a call.

Chief Daryl Rollins, 42, of the North Amityville Volunteer Fire Company, died suddenly while on duty, according to Firefighter Close Calls.

Initial reports stated that Rollins died as the result of a “medical emergency.”

The U.S. Fire Administration reported that Rollins responded to a call about a possible residential fire on Tuesday night, and was found unresponsive at home early the next morning.

Rollins was immediately transported to the hospital, where he later passed away.

Several fire departments expressed their condolences on social media.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow members,” wrote the nearby Amityville Fire Department. “Rest In Peace, Chief.”
