WYNNEWOOD, Pa. — A volunteer firefighter with the Penn Wynne/Overbrook Hills Fire Company died Monday after battling a structure fire in Wynnewood.
Firefighter Sean W. DeMuynck, 35, was found unresponsive on the third floor of a house in Wynnewood, Pa., at about 11 p.m. July 4. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m.
“We lost a true hero last night,” Lower Merrion Township Fire Chief Chas McGarvey said during a press conference on Monday. DeMuynck was on his last call before moving to his native Canada, NBC10 Philadelphia reported. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he planned to head north the next morning.
DeMuynck had reportedly submitted applications to continue with firefighting once returning to the Toronto area.
Two other firefighters on the third floor were able to escape the structure fire without injury.
