CLERMONT — A Lake County deputy sheriff, two firefighters and a suspect are recovering after the four were exposed to what is believed to be fentanyl during a traffic stop.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Florida Boys Ranch Road in the area of the County Road 561 intersection Tuesday afternoon.
During the stop, the deputy located narcotics and shortly thereafter began to pass out. Another deputy quickly administered Narcan, which revived the deputy.
Fire rescue personnel arrived on scene and two firefighters also began feeling ill. One was also given Narcan.
As the situation progressed, a male suspect in the car also began to react.
All four were transported to the South Lake Hospital and are recovering.
Several other responding deputies, as well as other passengers from the suspect’s vehicle, are being decontaminated, as is the scene itself.
Florida Boys Ranch Road is shut down just west of the CR 561 intersection. Motorists should avoid the area while deputies work to collect the substance and clear the scene.
