GREAT BEND, N.D. — Firefighters rescued a teenage girl from a burning home here, authorities say.

Richland County Emergency Manager Brett Lambrecht said the girl called 911 on Monday to report that she was trapped on the second floor of the burning home on the town’s Main Street.

“When the firefighters arrived from Great Bend, she was waving in front of the window, and they were able to throw a ladder up and punch the window out, and she come kind of flying out into the firefighters’ arms,” Lambrecht said.

“The smoke was so bad - she had put towels underneath the door to prevent more smoke from coming in,” he said.

Authorities said the teen was taken to a Breckenridge, Minn., hospital where she was treated and released.
