BARNEGAT, N.J. — Despite searing heat from a car fire sending flames at least 15 feet high, a Barnegat police officer threw open a BMW’s rear door and successfully pulled out an incapacitated man from the passenger’s seat last night, an episode captured on her cruiser’s mobile video recorder.
Officer Lauren Keilitz, an 8-year veteran, is seen running to the blazing BMW, which is parked in a Biscayne Road driveway and then heard yelling, “Get out of the car!” several times.
The car’s occupant, later identified as Mario Dischiavi, 57, was apparently too incapacitated to respond, a department spokesman, Lt. Keith Germain, said.
