KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Authorities identified Peter Phan as the firefighter who went missing after falling off his paddle board last weekend.

Phan, 34, and his friend went paddle boarding when they were knocked off by high winds and waves, YaktriNews reports. Phan was not wearing a lifejacket and his friend was picked up by a boater.

Phan is a volunteer firefighter with the Mountain View Fire and Rescue in Auburn.

Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing.

“We have requested additional divers and a Side Scan Sonar to augment our search operations. We are optimistic the additional resources will allow us to recover Mr. Phan and pray this will help bring some comfort to his family and friends,” Undersheriff Clay Myers said.
