LAREDO, Texas — A group of Laredo firefighters, who were hoping to put a smile on the faces of Laredoans amid the coronavirus pandemic, went viral after taking on a dance challenge, making it all the way to the desk of comedian and talk show host Ellen Degeneres.

The viral clip, which as of Tuesday morning has nearly 2 million plays on TikTok, was recently featured on the YouTube channel for the daytime talk show. The channel typically includes interviews with celebrities, talk show segments and viral clips Ellen wants to share with her fans.

“If you know anything about me, it’s that I love two things: dancing and firefighters,” Degeneres said in the clip prefacing the viral Laredo video. “So it would be a real quarantine miracle if I found a web video that included both of those things.”

The video, which was posted by TikTok user @leogarcia3089, features a group of Laredo firefighters performing a choreographed dance routine to The Weeknd’s newest single, “Blinding Lights” while in full firefighting gear. A Laredo fire truck also appears in the background of the shot, with lights at full service.

The video also caught the attention of The Weeknd himself, also being shared through the singer-songwriter’s TikTok account.
