Firefighters escape house fire as ammo explodes

One firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. — Firefighters escaped from a burning home moments before ammunition being stored inside began to explode Tuesday night.

WTVR reported that crews were called to the home just after 10 p.m. and found it completely involved. As they fought the blaze, firefighters found ammunition being stored inside. Moments after they escaped, they began to hear the ammunition exploding.

One firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. One person lived in the home and was able to get out safely.

Officials said the home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
