STANFORD, Ky. — First responders from multiple departments helped save a horse that was stuck in mud.

According to the Stanford Fire Department, on Nov. 16, units were contacted by the Lincoln County Fire District to assist with moving a horse in distress up to its neck in mud.

The Stanford Fire Department called for additional help from the Bluegrass Emergency Response Team, which is a specialized team when it comes to large animal rescues.

Utilizing special tools and the prompt assistance of a backhoe from the Lincoln County Road Department, the 24-year-old mare was successfully extricated.

The mare was checked out by a team of veterinarians. The Sanford Fire Department said by the time gear was cleaned and loaded up, the horse was up and walking around.

“We have so many agencies and responders to thank for the assistance. Job well done,” Stanford Fire said.
