CLAYTON, N.C. — A new $950,000 fire engine was damaged after overturning in a single-vehicle crash in Clayton on Sept. 24.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. on Covered Bridge Road between Payton Drive and Club Connector, WNCN reported. Engine 1 overturned while responding to an EMS call and came to rest off the roadway.

No injuries were reported.
Engine 1 had been placed in service just three days earlier at the town’s Horne Street Fire Station.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
