MADISON, Wis. — A city honored a firefighter-paramedic who died in the line of duty by naming a fire truck after him.
Channel 3000 reported that the city of Madison officially named Engine 10 after firefighter-paramedic Richard Garner Jr., who died in April.
The truck is now adorned with a plaque that bears Garner’s name.
The resolution was passed just four days before Garner’s 30th birthday, according to Madison 365.
“It’s an extremely humbling gesture and a great way to honor Rick’s service to the city,” Doug Johnson, Garner’s colleague and friend, said. “It’s also fitting that it be on Engine 10, the rig that protects the city’s north side, a community that Rick loved and had such a positive impact on. I know his spirit will protect all those that ride that engine, as well as the citizens of that community that it will serve in the future.”
