ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man was arrested for stealing a fire department SUV and leading police on a short chase.

ABC Action News reported that Michael Chick, who was just released from prison in October, faces charges after allegedly stealing a Lealman Fire Department SUV from the station.

Officials said Lealman Fire Department Captain Larry Thompson noticed the bright red SUV was missing from the station after receiving a call that one of his crew members was driving erratically.

“That’s when I looked out and saw it was not where it was supposed to be,” Capt. Thompson said.

Police used an aerial unit to locate Chick and found him at a fast food restaurant, where he attempted to run away on foot but was caught and arrested.

Officials said Chick faces one count of burglary to an occupied structure, one count of fleeing to elude, count of grand theft auto and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
