COLUMBUS, Ohio — An early Monday house fire blamed on an electrical malfunction has killed three adults in Ohio, authorities say.

Firefighters were called to the house in Hilliard, Ohio around 3:30 a.m. to find the home engulfed in flames, WBNS-TV, Columbus, Ohio, reported.

Some of the residents, who had made it outside and were trying to fight the flames with a garden hose, told firefighters three family members were still inside.

Using ladders to enter the house, firefighters found two people dead and third badly burned, Norwich Township Fire Chief Dave Long said.

The burn victim was transported to Ohio State University Medical Center but died a short time later.

Names of the victims were not immediately released.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s office determined the fire was accidental, sparked by an electrical malfunction in the home’s attic.
