Ala. training captain dies after stroke

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Training Captain died Tuesday when he suffered a stroke after leaving work at Birmingham, Ala.. Fire and Rescue.

Training Captain Joseph R. Mixon, 51, felt ill while performing in-station duties Monday, according to the USFA. He left for home, where he suffered a cerebrovascular accident (stroke) just after midnight on Tuesday.

Captain Mixon passed away at a hospital later in the day.
