Albany, Ore. firefighters train in old Mervyns

ALBANY, Ore. — “Firefighter down!”

Hearing that, four firefighters on Albany’s Rapid Intervention Team yanked open the front doors to the former Mervyns department store and went in.

Their training mission Thursday was to find and pull out “Rescue Randy,” a 195-pound dummy dressed in firefighting gear with an air tank strapped to its back. An alarm on the dummy had sounded, indicating that Randy hadn’t moved for some time. The dummy was either injured or trapped.
