Calif. firefighter suffers minor injuries in roof collapse

Vallejo Times Herald

VALLEJO, Calif. — A three-alarm fire Thursday afternoon destroyed a home’s garage before firefighters contained the blaze.

One firefighter was injured when the roof caved in, releasing heat and leaving second and third-degree burns on his face, fire officials said. He was treated and released.

A call came in at 4:11 p.m. about the fire at a single-family residence at 1030 Benicia Road. The house was vacant and power was already shut off, said Assistant Fire Chief Kurt Henke.

Firefighters put out the fire in about 20 minutes while people lined the streets nearby as black smoke billowed into the air.

The fire is under investigation.
