LAS VEGAS — Clark County firefighters set a record for service in 2005, responding to more than 100,000 emergencies for the first time in the department’s 52-year history.

About three-fourths of the 101,613 calls for service the 12 months ended Dec. 31 were for medical emergencies, spokesman Bob Leinbach said. The total number of fire and medical aid calls in unincorporated Clark County was up 4.5 percent from 2004.

Las Vegas firefighters handled another 82,030 calls in the 130-square-mile city, up almost 9 percent from 2004, department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
