PITTSTOWN, N.Y. — Police say an SUV collided with a truck carrying ice cream on an upstate New York highway, killing four people, including a Vermont mother and her two children.

A 15-year-old girl survived Sunday’s early morning crash on Route 7 in Pittstown, as did the driver of the truck. A man driving the SUV also died.

State police say the crash occurred when the SUV crossed the center line. None of the victims were identified, but police said the woman was from Bennington, Vt.

State Police Lt. George Port says it’s unclear what relationship the man had to the woman and her children, ages 13 and 10.

An 8-mile strip of highway was closed to traffic for hours after the crash, which was called in about 5 a.m.

Pittstown is about 20 miles northeast of Albany.
