CHICAGO — Firefighters conducting a well-being check on a 93-year-old man in Chicago were forced to take evasive action when he opened fire on them.
Crews responded to the elderly man’s house Tuesday night when his medical emergency bracelet or necklace was activated, according to NBC Chicago.
Firefighters arrived at the home at 12:45 a.m. and took out a wall air conditioning unit to gain access to the house after no response at the door.
Thinking the responders were criminals breaking into his home, the man fired two shots that both missed the firefighters.
The man was unhurt and may have had his medical alert device activated accidentally.
Police don’t plan the charge the man because he was scared and acting in self defense, according to reports.
