CALERA, Ala. — The late Chris Roy, a Calera firefighter who died responding to a routine call in November, was named EMT of the year posthumously by the Birmingham Regional Medical Services System.
Roy died Nov. 28 in a collision with an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Shelby County Road 87 and the Interstate 65 south exit ramp.
“He was just dedicated to his job, which he took very seriously,” said Calera Fire Chief Tommy Moon. “He lost his life responding to a medical call, but he was a real good person, always smiling and enjoying his work, and enjoying his life.”
