PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh fire truck crashed head-on into a car in Beltzhoover this morning after the engine’s wheels slipped on street car tracks on Warrington Avenue, officials said.

One woman in the car was hospitalized, but her injuries are not believed to be serious, fire battalion Chief Rick Becker said. Another person in the car was treated for minor injuries on site.

The crash occurred about 10:15 a.m. as Engine 27, out of the Mt. Washington station, drove up Warrington in heavy rain. The tires “got stuck on the tracks,” Becker said, and the engine veered to the right, hit a bus stop pole at Curtin Avenue, then veered into oncoming traffic and hit the Ford Focus, Becker said.

No firefighters were injured. Warrington Avenue was closed for about 45 minutes while crews cleaned debris.
