BANGOR, Maine — Bangor firefighters will participate in a fundraiser called “Fill the Boot” 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Firefighters will be at the Hogan Road entrance to the Bangor Mall with their boots ready to be filled with donations, all to help firefighters in their support of MDA.

People in the area are asked to stop at the Bangor Fire Department’s “Voluntary Toll” and help them “Fill the Boot.” During last year’s program, firefighters across Maine raised more than $73,000 for children and adults battling neuromuscular diseases right here in Maine.

The money raised at this event will enable the association to continue to provide life-enhancing services for adults and children with neuromuscular diseases. That includes health care at hospital-affiliated MDA clinics, such as the one at Eastern Maine Medical Center, headed by Dr. R. Stephen Amato and Dr. Peter Keebler.

Their efforts also will help with support groups, MDA summer camp provided by Pine Tree Camp, and assistance in buying equipment such as wheelchairs, communication devices and leg braces. Participants also will help researchers make scientific advances and get closer every day to treatments and cures.
